Context

Why this matters now

From 2 August 2026, designated authorities within the EU will begin supervising and enforcing the EU AI Act's literacy requirements (Article 4). Article 4 itself has been in force since February 2025: the obligation already exists. Fines for related AI Act breaches reach €15 million or 3% of global turnover, whichever is higher (European Commission, 2026).

Underneath that sits shadow AI: tools like ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot and Claude being downloaded, or AI quietly embedded inside CRMs, productivity suites, HR platforms and workspaces — used by staff who often do not know they are using AI at all. If a regulator carried out an audit, would you know the scale of AI use in your organisation? Could you justify how and why an AI decision was made?
